Euratlas Periodis Expert is a database and historical atlas of Europe with editing functions. This software describes the political status of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East at fixed intervals from year 1 to 2000. The emphasis has been placed on an exact drawing of the territories at specific times defined by a fixed periodicity, i.e. on the first day of each secular year. The concepts taken into are legal, historical and geographical. The official names of the countries, as far as they are known, are mentioned, in Latin from year 1 to year 500, and in French from year 600 onwards. A distinction is made between sovereign states, semi-autonomous entities and istrative divisions (see p. 8 for more details). Where insufficient information is provided, only the usual names of groups or federations of peoples shall be indicated. The names of cities are usually written in the local language but some alternative or contemporary forms are also indicated, to facilitate research. Periodis Expert offers the following possibilities: 1) navigation on maps of Europe through time and space, 2) exploration of countries and cities of a specific century, 3) search for countries, provinces or cities in the current map or in the 21 available centuries, 4) printing or export of default maps of one or more centuries, 5) creation of personalized maps by modifying the labels and their locations, 6) indication of battle or other significant places by means of bookmarks, 7) printing or export of customized maps. The demo version offers all the functions but it is limited to Italy and Dalmatia in the year 1300.
